Walk-in tubs for Sarasota, Venice and Bradenton

The Sarasota-Bradenton area draws retirees from all over, and its homes run from island condos to new Lakewood Ranch builds. One surprise: the county line decides which aging agency you call.

Direct answer: Yes, we install walk-in tubs across Sarasota and Manatee counties, from island condos to Lakewood Ranch and Venice. Which Area Agency on Aging you call depends on the county line, and taller or larger bathers have good model choices. Call 1-888-779-2284 for a free quote.

Sarasota and Manatee counties

A region built around retirement living

Sarasota County has one of the older populations in Florida, and Venice and North Port are popular with retirees. Manatee County, just north, includes Bradenton, Palmetto and much of Lakewood Ranch. Across both counties you find barrier island condos on Longboat Key, Siesta Key and Anna Maria, mid-century homes in Sarasota proper and large new communities inland.

We help homeowners across the area with walk-in tubs, wheelchair transfer tubs and roll-in showers. We do not have a showroom here. Planning happens by phone and photos, followed by an in-home measure and a full installation.

Coast

Island and bayfront condos

On Longboat Key, Lido, Siesta Key, Casey Key and Anna Maria Island, many residents live in condos or older beach homes. Two things come up again and again: association rules and flood-zone rules.

Association paperwork

Expect an application for plumbing work, license and insurance documents and a reserved elevator. Some buildings limit work during the winter season.

Flood-zone tracking

Barrier island homes generally sit in coastal flood zones. If you have had storm repairs or are planning other projects, ask your building department how it counts improvements. Our climate guide explains the 50 percent rule.

Bridges and access

Island deliveries depend on causeways and bridges, and storms can close them. We plan delivery windows with that in mind.

Salt air

Coastal air is hard on metal. Ask about finishes on grab bars, faucets and door hardware, and rinse fixtures during routine cleaning.

Inland

Lakewood Ranch, North Port and newer communities

Newer homes inland usually have larger primary bathrooms, often with a separate soaking tub and walk-in shower. That gives you choices. Some families replace the soaking tub with a walk-in tub. Others convert the shower to a low-threshold roll-in. If you are building or buying new, ask the builder about blocking in the walls for future grab bars. It costs little now and saves work later.

Many of these neighborhoods have HOAs that set rules for contractor access and parking. Interior work usually needs less approval than exterior changes.

Wide walk-in tub suited to a larger bathroom
Bigger primary baths can fit wider or two-seat tubs.
Older homes

Mid-century homes in Sarasota and Venice

Sarasota is known for mid-century architecture, and many neighborhoods have single-story homes from the 1950s through the 1970s. Typical bathrooms are compact, with a 60-inch tub, original tile and a small window. A walk-in tub often fits the alcove. The work is in the details: the drain side on the slab, wall condition behind the old tub and a water heater that may be decades old.

Venice also has many older neighborhoods near the island and downtown. Measure the delivery path through the house. Narrow interior doors are common.

Body fit

Choosing a model for taller or larger bathers

Retirees who come to Sarasota and Bradenton from all over the country come in every size. A tub that fits the bathroom but not the body will not get used. Before features, check legroom, seat width and door width against the person who will bathe most.

Ella models often considered for size (from Ella's published specifications)
NeedModelSize
Extra legroom in a 60-inch spaceElla Lounger27" W x 60" L
Very tall bathersElla Big4One33" W x 66" L, built for bathers up to 7 feet
Widest transfer seatElla TransferXXL36" W x 55" L, 29" seat
Stretch out fullyElla Lay Down 7232" W x 72" L

If you can, have the bather sit on a chair and measure hip width and knee-to-back length. Those two numbers say more about comfort than height alone. We will compare them with spec sheets for you.

Questions and answers

Sarasota walk-in tub FAQ

Which Area Agency on Aging serves Sarasota County?

The Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida serves Sarasota County. Manatee County is served by Senior Connection Center. The Elder Helpline at 1-800-963-5337 connects you to either.

Can I install a walk-in tub in a Longboat Key or Siesta Key condo?

Usually, yes, with association approval. Expect paperwork, elevator scheduling and possibly seasonal work limits. If your building is in a flood zone and has had other work done, ask the building department how improvements are counted.

Should I replace my soaking tub or my shower?

It depends on the bather. If they love to soak and can step over a low lip, a walk-in tub in place of the soaking tub may be ideal. If they use a wheelchair or prefer showers, converting the shower to a roll-in may serve them better.

What if I am too tall for a standard walk-in tub?

Look at longer models. The Ella Lounger offers 60 inches of length, the Big4One is built for bathers up to 7 feet tall and the Lay Down 72 lets you stretch out. We compare your measurements with each model's spec sheet.
