Walk-in tubs for Orlando and Central Florida

Central Florida grew fast, and its homes show it: newer two-story subdivisions, established Winter Park neighborhoods and plenty of HOAs. Here is how to plan a safer bath in this part of the state.

Direct answer: Yes, we install walk-in tubs throughout Orlando and Central Florida. In two-story homes the first step is choosing which bathroom to change, deep tubs may need a look at your water heater, and many HOAs want notice before work starts. Call 1-888-779-2284 for a free quote.

Which bathroom should change?

In many Central Florida homes the first question is not which tub, but which bathroom. A lot of homes built in the last few decades are two stories, with the primary suite upstairs and a smaller bath downstairs. If stairs are getting hard, putting the walk-in tub or accessible shower on the ground floor may matter more than any feature on the tub.

We help homeowners across Greater Orlando with walk-in tubs, transfer tubs and roll-in showers. There is no Orlando showroom. We plan by phone and photos, measure in your home and install from start to finish.

Layouts

Planning in a two-story home

Ground-floor option

Many downstairs bathrooms have a shower stall or a standard tub. A low-threshold walk-in shower or a roll-in shower may fit a downstairs stall well. If there is a tub alcove downstairs, a walk-in tub may fit there.

Upstairs primary bath

If the bather will keep using the stairs, the primary bath may be the right place. Upper floors mean we check the floor and the tub's filled weight before recommending a model.

Think about the future

Ask whether a stair lift or a first-floor bedroom might be needed later. It is easier to plan both together than one at a time.

Hot water reach

A tub far from the water heater waits longer for hot water. In bigger homes, we look at where the heater sits and how big it is.

Hot water

Tank, tankless and a deep tub

Central Florida homes have a mix of electric tank water heaters, gas tanks and tankless units. Each handles a deep walk-in tub differently.

  • Tank heaters hold a set amount of hot water. A large walk-in tub can use much of a smaller tank in one fill. The U.S. Department of Energy suggests sizing tank heaters by their first-hour rating, the amount of hot water they can deliver in an hour.
  • Tankless heaters never run out, but they deliver a limited flow at a time. A fast-fill faucet may run at a lower rate than its maximum if the heater cannot keep up, so the tub fills more slowly.
  • Distance matters. In larger homes, a long pipe run from the heater to the bathroom means waiting for hot water to arrive.

Ella lists a suggested water heater size for each model. We compare it with yours during the quote and tell you if it may come up short.

Find your heater's label: it lists the tank size in gallons or, for tankless, the flow rate. A photo of it is one of the most useful things you can send us.

Older neighborhoods

Winter Park, College Park and older Orlando

Established neighborhoods such as Winter Park, College Park, Delaney Park and parts of Maitland have homes from the 1920s through the 1960s. Bathrooms are smaller, doors narrower, and tile older. These baths often have a standard tub alcove, which suits many walk-in tubs, but the path through the house and the wall condition behind the old tub need a careful look.

Some older homes have had plumbing updated in pieces over the years. We look for that during the measure so the quote reflects what is really there.

Community rules

HOAs, gated communities and 55+ neighborhoods

Much of Central Florida's newer housing sits inside homeowners' associations. Interior bathroom work usually needs less paperwork than exterior changes, but associations often control gate access, contractor parking, dumpster placement and work hours. A quick call to the management office avoids surprises.

Central Florida also has many active-adult communities, especially in Lake and Osceola counties and around Clermont, Kissimmee and Davenport. Single-story homes there often make a straightforward walk-in tub install. For the region's best-known 55+ community, see our guide to The Villages.

Questions and answers

Orlando walk-in tub FAQ

Should I put a walk-in tub upstairs or downstairs?

If stairs are already hard, downstairs is usually better, even if that bathroom is smaller. If the bather will keep using the stairs safely, the upstairs primary bath can work. We check upper-floor framing and the tub's filled weight before recommending a model.

Do Orlando HOAs need to approve a walk-in tub?

Interior work often needs little or no HOA approval, but many associations still set rules for contractor access, parking and work hours. Check your documents or call the management office.

Which agency helps seniors in Orange County, Florida?

Senior Resource Alliance is the Area Agency on Aging for Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Brevard counties. The Elder Helpline at 1-800-963-5337 connects you.

Will my tankless water heater fill a walk-in tub?

A tankless heater will not run out of hot water, but it delivers a limited flow at a time. The tub may fill more slowly than its faucet's maximum rate. We check your heater's rating against the tub you are considering.
